How to read this page

  • Per egg is the real figure. NECC prints one number per city, such as 590, which is its trade way of writing 590 paise — ₹5.90 for one egg. Per dozen and per tray are that figure multiplied by 12 and by 30. Nothing else is calculated.
  • Suggested and prevailing are two different things. The suggested rate is what NECC recommends to the trade that day. The prevailing rate is what a second, shorter list of cities report they are actually paying, and NECC suggests no rate for those. The two lists are on separate tabs here and are never averaged together.
  • A farm belt is cheaper than a city market. NECC marks each centre as a production centre, where the eggs are laid, or a consumption centre, which buys them in and so pays the freight too.
  • A blank stays blank. If NECC published no rate for a city on a day, that city is simply not in the table. The previous day’s figure is never carried forward to fill the gap.
  • This is a wholesale benchmark, not a shop price. What you pay at a shop includes the retailer’s own margin and is normally higher.

Collected daily at 2:30 pm IST from e2necc.com/home/eggprice. The original page is saved and checksummed before it is read, and every stored rate keeps the row of the sheet it came from, so any figure here can be traced back to the sheet that published it. The India average is the mean of the per-egg suggested rates for the day; the comparison against the previous day uses only the cities that published on both days.
