Fertiliser recommendation

Pick your crop, say how much land you have, and see how many bags to buy. The dose comes from the state package of practices and is adjusted for your soil.

Soil test

Your Soil Health Card prints these 3 readings. If you do not have the card yet, choose the band instead and the page uses a middle reading for it.

What to buy

  • 3.5bags of urea45 kg each
  • 1bags of DAP50 kg each
  • 4bags of potash50 kg each

About ₹9,147 at the government rate. Check what a bag should cost

That is 81 kg of nitrogen, 24 kg of phosphorus and 121 kg of potassium on 1 acre of Banana. DAP already carries part of the nitrogen, so the urea figure is what is left after that is counted.

Want the rest of the card read, including pH and organic carbon? Read my soil card does that.

Worth knowing

  • Get a free Soil Health Card from your nearest soil testing laboratory or Krishi Vigyan Kendra. The government pays for the test.
  • A card is valid for about 3 years, or 2 crop cycles. After that the numbers have moved.
  • These doses are a starting point from the state package of practices, adjusted for what your card says. Your extension officer knows your block better than any table does.
  • Split nitrogen across the season rather than applying it all at sowing. Most of a single dose is lost before the crop can use it.
